Our in-depth knowledge of sporting injuries means we are able treat athletes of all levels. You don’t have to be an elite athlete to require physiotherapy. Injury can occur at any level, from the international athlete to the weekend warrior to those who don’t get to exercise nearly as much as they like!! Our aim is to get all athletes back to their playing field as quickly and safely as possible. If required, we can liaise with local GP’s, Sports Physicians, Orthopaedic Surgeons and coaches.
Sports Injuries are commonly caused by overuse, direct impact, or an application of force that is greater than the body can structurally withstand. An injury that occurs as a direct result of a sudden event, such as a twisted knee, is called an acute injury. An injury that develops over time often caused by incorrect use of certain muscle groups is called a chronic injury. Whether your sports injury is acute or chronic, if pain persists we recommend coming to see us at Wicklow Physiotherapy Clinic.
At Wicklow Physiotherapy Clinic we adopt a holistic approach to the management of sports injuries. Our initial in depth assessment will involve screening the injured area but probably more importantly looking at the whole body to ascertain the contributing factors and figuring out why the injury may have occurred in the first place. Poor fitness, technique and structural abnormalities can also contribute to the development of sports injuries we also pay particular to these factors in our assessment. With this knowledge we feel we are better equipped to fully rehabilitate and prevent the injury from recurring just when you don’t need it to!
Common sports injuries we treat include back pain, elbow injuries, lower leg and ankle injuries, hip and groin injuries, shin and knee injuries, upper leg and thigh injuries, wrist and hand injuries, shoulder injuries and chest and abdominal injuries.
